I sneak a peek at his Spotify playlist, half certain it’ll be all just white noise or classic orchestral music, only to find Taylor Swift’s latest album playing instead. Alice thinks her secret power helps her get enough money to pay her tuition and help out her family’s financial problems.
The plot was so easy to get caught up in but also focused heavily on these little moments between the two main characters, who I ended up really liking.the fantasy – or dare i say, magical realism – aspects played a bigger role in the story than i originally thought it would. poor boy is claustrophobic tho T_T the train compartment scene made me want to go on a train right now. I didn’t mean this book is not enough thought provoking with strong messages like criticizing class differences, racism, inequality, poverty but the way of giving those messages was brilliant!
When she isn’t stressing out over her college assignments or writing, she can be found making over-ambitious to-do lists, binge-watching dramas, and having profound conversations with her pet labradoodle about who’s a good dog. I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED THIS BOOK AND NOW I LEGIT HAVE NO CLUE HOW I SURVIVED BEFORE I READ IF YOU COULD SEE THE SUN.
This was a buddy read with Maggie😋 and we both agree that HENRY IS LITERALLY MASTERMIND BY T-SWIZZLE👏!
Alice Sun has always felt invisible at her elite Beijing international boarding school, where she’s the only scholarship student among China’s most rich and influential teens. The author did a good job of showing the escalation of the tasks students hired Alice to do, from rather sordid but standard spy jobs that gradually intensify towards outright criminal acts.i also went in thinking this was going to be focused solely on the romance, but the slow burn is the longest slow burn i have ever read i might be exaggerating.
