This makes it possible to go a respectably long distance or do several short trips before the battery has to be recharged. Does the range match the 100 kilometres claimed by ADO? Although tests would seem to imply that there is a large degree of diversity, it is impossible to say. It’s also easy to squeeze through tight gaps – like standstill traffic – thanks to the smaller width handlebars, so you can kiss congestion goodbye. During this journey, I would estimate that I pedalled for around 30% of the time, with the ADO Air’s engine doing the most of the effort. Because of this, I never got fatigued and didn’t have to exert myself much to climb hills. But it was not expected that the motor would have to be pushed up higher slopes.

If you’re a lighter rider, you’ll get more out of it and you could add a chunk to that in warmer weather as well, but it’s hard to envisage anyone getting close to 100km. (See our guide to e-bike range for a more detailed explanation of all of this.) The bike looks awesome and the adjustable handle bar and seat makes it very comfortable to ride. The brakes are stable, the bike rides very silently and feels very responsive.Riders on a short budget who want an exhilarating e-bike ride without the high price tag are lured by ADO Air. Okay, it’s not a mid-motor e-MTB, it’s a single-speed city bike – but heavier riders in particular might find they’re applying the label ‘challenging’ to rather more terrain than they anticipated. It’s important to note that when evaluating ADO AIR, I did find a few issues. The absence of suspension might be problematic. The ADO Air isn’t the most comfortable bike to ride on bumpy roads. Because of the sturdy frame, you can see every dip and divot in the road surface.

The ADO Air also comes with a carbon belt drive and an exposed derailleur. Two 20 x 1.75 all-season tyres with a 20-inch diameter are mounted on the bike’s wheels. To provide stopping force, the ADO Air’s front and rear hydraulic single-piston disc brake callipers are connected to matched 160mm cross-drilled brake rotors. The three assistance levels are nicely calibrated too. The manual suggests they cut out at different speeds, but I didn’t find that to be the case. Even in level one, the motor contributed all the way up to 25km/h – it just wasn’t doing quite as much as in either of the two higher levels. Here at ebiketips we tend to think that’s a better way of setting up an e-bike than having lower assistance levels that are only there for riding at 15km/h or whatever. The bicycle can be folded in half and weighs about 16 kg (35.2 lbs). The bike has a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) on a single charge thanks to a 37 Nm motor and a 36 V battery. The Air also includes an inbuilt IPS display and a remote control app.It also has a handy little feature to help you wheel it about. Simply roll the bike on its wheels and hold down the minus button and it gives you some assistance – so no need for carrying. Because it is an upgraded bicycle, the pedal and accelerator modes can now be switched freely according to the laws of different countries;
