Description

First edition, first impression, signed and warmly inscribed by Raymond Briggs in the year of publication. Ethel and Ernest' (1998) is an affecting, effectively told and brilliantly illustrated graphic novel, telling the story of Briggs' parents from the 1930's to the 1970's. Dahl's books are populated with unfortunate children who become wounded but wiser by their adventures, such as James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, and so on.

This is a truly beautiful book , which is also a book of social history with the dark days of WW11, and all the changes that Ethel and Ernest experience as they brought up their only son. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. We enter the 1930s and the times are rough during these period because of high unemployment, recuperating from WWI, and economic depression. Brown hardback(gilt lettering to the spine, two small nicks on the cover) with Dj(very small tear on the edges of the back Dj cover, small nicks and crease on the edges of the Dj cover), both in near fine condition. Briggs account of his parents lives ( and deaths ) in his unequalled wry manner through his favoured coloured strip format; a poignant, memorable tale. We specialise in hard to find and international magazine titles including Apartamento, L'Étiquette, Popeye and Gentlewoman along with a range of fiction and non-fiction books from a wide range of independent publishers. Follow that life as they (and Raymond) go through enormous changes and end up in a world that was unimaginable at the start of the book. The reissue of Briggs' award winning illustrated story of his parents, issued by Jonathan Cape the year after the book was first published.

My problem with this was how Ethel came across: she came from a working class family (she had about 8 other siblings) and yet she looked down on what she referred to as 'commoners'.En esta historia también se habla mucho sobre la paternidad: sobre volcar las ilusiones en los hijos y que después sus sueños sean distintos a lo que se proyectó para ellos, sobre crecer posicionándose en contra de todo lo que se mamó. The BOOK has been inscribed by the author to the title page : 'For Anthony May, with best wishes, Raymond Briggs, 23 March 2001'. It had its North American premiere at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival by its US distributors, and was chosen by an audience vote to be screened in the "Best of the Fest" on the final day.
