If you want a quick and easy to finish holiday book and are willing to forgive the sketchy detail and character development, then this is the one for you. Only Grace seems to be aware of his true nature and she is racing against the clock to stop him before he does worse than he already has. She didn’t expect to be swept off her feet by the charismatic Jack Angel, a chivalrous Prince Charming who dotes on Millie as much as he seems to love Grace. I couldn't be sure for instance whether the story was set in the UK or the USA - the description of Jack as this "celebrated lawyer" who defends battered women in court and has "never lost a case yet" sounds more LA than London.

It must seem strange that these are often kept shut during the day, but as Jack tells anyone who asks, with a job like his, good security is one of his priorities. This is a chilling, claustrophobic, psychological thriller, that has had a huge emotional impact on me - and credit to B.And yes, themovie rights f …more Be"hind Closed Doors is a stand alone book, I have another book coming out next year 'The Breakdown' but it isn't a sequel. While maintaining a persona as a brilliant and kind lawyer, Jack makes his marriage to Grace seem perfect by forcing her to appear doting and lovely in public with his friends. If you can keep your imagination under control, the author doesn't provide any horrendous details that will leave you scarred. When Grace tells her friend, Esther, that Jack wants to stay behind and join her in Thailand in a few days so he can catch up on paperwork and sulk about his loss, Esther picks her up and takes her to the airport. BUT I get the whole syndrome, the awful cycle that kicks in within a marriage of THIS kind, so she’s forgiven indeed.

plus, this is one of those books where i can already hear the shrieking of the people about how all of the spoilers in the world are being spoiled by me so it's probably best for me to do this instead.Yes, I was originally sold on it by the plotline description and the number of five star reviews it had received, but if I had started to read the much smaller number of really negative reviews first, I would never have picked up the novel in the first place, and that would have been a shame. The author could have made so much more of Jack as a character by stretching out the unveiling of his psychosis and depravity by peeling away its layers gradually like an onion, finally reaching the horror of his black and rotting core towards the finale. Behind Closed Doors is sure to be a huge success, and has definitely made it into my Top Ten Books of 2015.
