Fans can argue till the cows come home about which tracks should or shouldn't have been included, yet to try and alert people to Iron Maidens music by way of a simple CD that only has a max 80 mins play time requires the compiler to make track selections that may or may not please a die hard maiden fan, this album was undoubtedly aimed at newcomers or casual fans at the time of release. Best of the Beast has long since been out of print and has been "replaced" by Edward the Great in most countries as a greatest hits package for the band.

While fluid in the early years of the band, the lineup for most of the band's history has consisted of Harris, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers. This is where Best of the Beast differentiates itself from more recent releases, still holding it's crown to this very day. Consequently, hidden gems such as "Total Eclipse", the B-side to "Run To The Hills", went largely unrecognized. I hope the minimal money you got for this second hand CD minus it's case and the other stuff you decided to take without my permission while damaging my vehicle pays toward your accidental heroin overdose ! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

It is generally accepted that most printed-tee-wearing non-metalhead subordinate people are best served by a greatest-hits album since it can sustain their very limited attention, therefore by targeting audiences new and old with a collection works varying according to different tastes, sales are maximised, and with all editions of "Best of the Beast" weighted towards the iconic Bruce Dickinson hard-rocking era - symphonic live renditions and highlights from Blaze Blayley and Paul Di'Anno's respective periods at the helm notwithstanding - as well as some tasteful remastering and cogent sequencing applied throughout, the compilers have succeeded where many have failed, covering all the bases and pretty much pleasing everyone in the process, including Iron Maiden's own very finicky fanbase! The two-CD edition contains two songs from the band's 1979 demo tape/EP The Soundhouse Tapes ("Iron Maiden" and "Strange World," of which the latter was previously unreleased). The sound quality is very good (a distinctly different remaster of these tracks to those found on the 1998 remastered albums, despite Simon Heyworth being the mastering engineer on both projects). The cover art was designed by Derek Riggs, known for having created most of Iron Maiden's early album covers. In 1990, a box set titled "The First Ten Years" was issued, offering collectors an exhaustive coverage of their consistently majestic singles, B-sides and all, in the digital format. The band have released 41 albums, including 17 studio albums, 13 live albums, four EPs and seven compilations. Excellent album, I recommend to everyone, even for non-fan, it is an excellent disc to meet the band, here are the best songs of Iron Maiden until 1995 and the album booklet provides complete descriptions of all the band's albums and tours and etc.Maybe you would be able to grab stuff from cars with your teeth afterwards with having lost the use of your hands to a flashing scimitar ? If your going to turn it up to 11 get some ear phones, it wasn't sociable listened to loud music back then and nothings changed. Contrary to the decidedly uncommercial disposition of heavy metal in its pre-halcyon days, Iron Maiden were quite radio-friendly, scoring hits in their native country and presaging post-"Black Album" Metallica's crossover appeal and huge live following. Despite my gripes, I still think that Best of the Beast is the best Iron Maiden compilation album and I really can't see my opinion changing very soon.

Over the years, we have had multiple best of collections from the English heavy metal legends, Iron Maiden.

The biggest strong point this album has is the fact this was released before Iron Maiden released those frequently panned remasters. Also included are a new single, entitled " Virus", [4] as well as previously unreleased live versions of "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" and "Revelations" (the latter exclusive to the vinyl edition).Best of the Beast lacks tracks like Killers, Prowler and a other classics from the first two albums. It's safe to say that every track on this collection is a winner but the difference between the two makes them both worthy of a pick up. Finally, in 1996, long after the band's imperial phase had ended, a round-up of all their best-known songs was released. Condition - This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description).
